Indications
Bravecto Spot-On for Dogs 4.4-9.9 lbs (2-4.5 kg) is designed to kill adult fleas and provide treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) for up to 12 weeks. Additionally, Bravecto treats and controls tick infestations, including black-legged ticks (Ixodes scapularis), American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis), brown dog ticks (Rhipicephalus sanguineus), and Asian longhorned ticks (Haemaphysalis longicornis) for 12 weeks. It also effectively treats and controls lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum) infestations for 8 weeks. Bravecto is suitable for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older, weighing 4.4 pounds or more.
Possible Side Effects
The most commonly reported side effects of Bravecto Spot-On include vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, increased thirst, and flatulence. Seizures have been reported in dogs taking isoxazoline class drugs, including those with no prior history of seizures. Use Bravecto with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurological disorders.
Precautions
Fluralaner, the active ingredient in Bravecto, belongs to the isoxazoline class, which has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions such as tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Seizures have been reported in dogs taking isoxazoline drugs, even in those without a prior history of seizures. Therefore, use Bravecto with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurological disorders. Bravecto has not been proven effective for a 12-week duration in puppies under 6 months of age and is not effective against Lone Star ticks beyond 8 weeks of dosing.
