Simple V-Stitch Crochet Scarf - Free Crochet Pattern - sigoni macaroni (2024)

I’ve always wanted to create something with variegated yarn, but every time I tried I could never find a stitch that really complemented the colors as much as I wanted it to. But guess what? I found a stitch! I bring you the SUPER Simple V-Stitch Crochet Scarf that works perfectly with variegated yarn!

Through my Etsy Shop, I receive a lot of custom order requests (these customers clearly give me many ideas like my Frankenstein Drawstring Backpack that was originally created as a Frankenstein Pillow!).

This one particular lady asked me recently if I could make her an infinity scarf using variegated yarn. As pretty as variegated yarn is when it’s all wound up in a ball, I can hardly EVER find a good stitch that really complements the variegated colors.

I dreaded creating it because I was afraid I would disappoint, but since she was dead set on this particular yarn I gave it a shot. I gotta keep my customers happy!

So I have this Stitch Dictionary that I call my Crochet Bible because it is where I go to start any design idea. I flipped and flipped through the pages, marking the ones that stood out to me with sticky notes as I went along. Let’s be real, it was actually ripped up pieces of paper from the blank notebook sitting next to me.

I swatched up 5 or 6 different types of stitches and really didn’t like them at all. They just didn’t look right to me. Maybe I’m just a super picky person, but I can’t create something for someone when I’m feeling, ‘eh’ about it. You know what I mean?

Either way I was getting pretty tired of swatching so I took a break, hopped on Pinterest and looked up ‘Easy Crochet Stitches’ and there it was: The V-Stitch. I’m like, “Girl. Duh. How did you not think of that?”

I started swatching it up and just fell in love. The colors look SO beautiful, the stitch is SUPER easy, and the best part is that it is also QUICK to work up! Because of how much I fell in love with it, I decided to bring you this super Simple V-Stitch Crochet Scarf today! Enjoy!

Materials:

Abbreviations:

  • Ch – Chain
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Sk – Skip
  • Rep – Repeat

Notes:

  • Make sure when you’re buying this yarn to purchase them all in the SAME DYE LOT. When I was going through the rack at the store I could tell a drastic difference between the colors in different dye lots.

Resizing/Foundation:

  • If you would like to make the width of this scarf bigger or smaller, all you need to know is the foundation chain is worked in multiples of 2 + 2. For example, chain in multiples of 2 until you reach the desired length, then add 2 at the end of that.
  • V-Stitch = 2 dc placed in between the two dc from the previous round (you will not be crocheting into the actual stitch, just the space between) creating a ‘V’ shape

Ch 32

Row 1: 2 dc in the fourth ch from hook, [skip 1 ch, 2 dc in next ch]. Rep [ ] until the last 2 ch. Skip next ch, 1 dc in last ch. Ch 2.

Row 2:Turn work. 2 dc in the space between the two dc from previous row and in each space down the row. 1 dc in top of ch 2 from previous row. Ch 2.

Rep Row 2 until you have used up all three skeins of yarn or have reached the desired length of your project.
